Job: Commodities Buyer

Salary: £38,000

Location: Birmingham

Hours: 8.00am-16.30pm Monday-Thursday | 08.00am-14.00pm Friday

24 days holiday

 

Main Purpose: To be responsible for ensuring the Company has the best supplier base to support business requirements.  Continually monitor commodities to understand market trends and the impact upon the company's supplier base. Continually review spend and ensure the lowest, total cost is in place.

Key Activities:

  • Procurement of material and parts for manufacture.
  • Working towards year on year cost savings and supply chain improvements.
  • Close liaison with Engineering.
  • Deliver sourcing projects to achieve defined business goals and objectives both financial and non-financial.
  • Sourcing requirements will include products, service and minor works as well as sourcing new programmes through a full tender process.
  • Sourcing projects and control progress.
  • Strategic sourcing, run structured procurement process with defined governance.
  • Supplier engagement.
  • Ability to negotiate, including running and planning negotiations.
  • Negotiations with 1st Tier supplier costs.
  • Global bench marking and process.
  • Extensive liaison with internal customer base.
  • Influencing cost drivers.
  • Ensure that all Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety legislation is adhered to.
  • Ensure all department and company procedures are adhered to.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness in the department, to the businesses 5S working philosophy.
  • Consistently identify opportunities for improvement within the department and record all improvements.
  • Any other duties to support the needs of the business.

Education:

Relevant degree qualification or equivalent or foundation Level CIPS as an alternative option vs NVQ Level 3.

Experience/Skills:

Proven experience in a purchasing function within the automotive industry; or equivalent experience in areas of sourcing activities, contract negotiations, evidence of spend versus savings achievements.

Leadership:

Coaching and training new and existing members of the team as and when required.  Assist the departmental manager in daily team activities also in meetings. Lead cost improvement projects.  Lead commodity strategy plan execution.

Accountability:

This position is accountable for cost savings. KPI's will be in place to review progress. Any substantial errors could have an impact upon suppliers, customers, and have financial implications for the company.  Must be dedicated to Health and Safety and ensure they consistently follow safe working practices.  Must complete records accurately in line with organisational requirements.

Complexity:

Company procedures, goals, strategy and objectives will govern the position.  Profit improvement plans will also determine departmental contribution to improving the profitability of the business.

Confidentiality:

This role does have access to sensitive and confidential information, related to the company, suppliers and customers.

Meeting Deadlines/Pressure of Work

The position will require deadlines to be met consistently especially related to Supplier and Customer requirements.
